Good Traders vs. Good Trades
The majority of the traders in this industry want spectacular results, without preparation. It is not a surprise, after all, that's what social media has been selling us, easy results, easy profits, easy life. However, if you have a few months doing trading you may have already realised that good trades don’t mean that you are a good trader.
In this article, I will tell you the difference between using the adjective “good” before the word “trader” and “trades”. The first thing you must take into account is that a good trader knows that proper preparation prevents poor performance, while a trader that only focus on having “good trades” is only focus on performance but not in the process behind those setups.
New traders are all about “good trades”, that's why they do not take the time to analyse the rationale behind a setup. They will do whatever it takes to not miss a good opportunity, even if that means to copy another system or signal. A good trader, on the contrary, is hungry for development. They do not rush into copying a trade, they know that trading habits come first and winning setups come second.
A trader focused only on good trades is like a boxer that only things about entering as many competitions as possible. The best boxers in the world are first trying to becoming a better athlete before entering the ring. Could you imagine a boxer skipping the gym and enter the ring to challenge the most difficult opponents? The boxer spends countless hours trying to condition his body and mind for what comes after. He or she will spend days analysing the weakness of their combos and the mistakes they made in the ring. The boxer will stay awake day and night figuring out all the necessary adjustments that will make him unbeatable…and that's exactly what “good traders” do.
Most traders do not accept a hard truth: is not about the market, it is about yourself. Good trades can be found every day, but all comes down to your mental makeup. You can be a master in technical and fundamental analysis, but that’s not the differentiating factor.
My recommendation for you is to focus on becoming a good trader and good trades will follow for sure. After all, is not about having the best cards, but rather making the best use of the ones that you already have.
